LEMOSHO ROUTE

8 Days

Scenic, Quiet and Beautifully Paced

Beginning on the western side of Kilimanjaro, the Lemosho Route introduces the mountain through remote forest and magnificent open landscapes. Its longer itinerary allows for a gradual ascent and makes it an excellent choice for travellers who value scenery, acclimatisation and a considered pace.

MACHAME ROUTE

7 Days

Dramatic Landscapes and a Rewarding Challenge

The Machame Route is celebrated for its striking scenery and varied trail. The journey crosses rainforest, moorland and alpine desert before approaching the summit from the east. It is ideal for active travellers seeking a beautiful and challenging Kilimanjaro experience.

MARANGU ROUTE

6 Days

A Classic Trail with Mountain-Hut Accommodation

The Marangu Route follows a well-established trail from the southeastern side of the mountain. It is the only principal Kilimanjaro route offering accommodation in mountain huts, making it suitable for travellers who prefer a traditional path and a shorter climbing programme.

Five Landscapes. One Extraordinary Ascent.

THE MOUNTAIN

RAINFOREST

Begin beneath a dense green canopy where ancient trees, tangled vines and moss-covered paths create an atmosphere far removed from the world below. The forest is alive with birdsong, butterflies and the occasional movement of blue monkeys or black-and-white colobus monkeys among the branches. As you climb through the cool, humid air, the rainforest provides a gentle and beautiful introduction to Kilimanjaro.

MOORLAND

Leaving the forest behind, the trail opens into an extraordinary landscape of rolling ridges, giant heathers and distinctive high-altitude plants. Expansive views begin to appear across northern Tanzania as the vegetation becomes lower and the mountain feels increasingly close. Days in the moorland are often bright and spacious, while evenings bring cooler air, changing cloud formations and remarkable colours across the slopes.

ALPINE DESERT

Continue into a vast and dramatic world shaped by volcanic rock, powerful winds and immense open skies. Vegetation becomes increasingly scarce as the trail crosses exposed ridges and wide, almost lunar landscapes beneath Kilimanjaro’s upper slopes. The silence, scale and changing light create one of the mountain’s most memorable environments, revealing the raw beauty of life at high altitude.

ARCTIC SUMMIT

The final ascent begins beneath a sky filled with stars, when the mountain is at its coldest and quietest. Moving slowly by headlamp, you follow your guide across steep scree and frozen terrain as the horizon gradually begins to brighten. Every step requires patience and determination, but the first light spreading across the African landscape makes this demanding stage profoundly rewarding.

UHURU PEAK

Arrive at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, standing 5,895 metres above sea level. Surrounded by glaciers, volcanic landscapes and extraordinary views, the summit offers a powerful moment to pause and appreciate everything the journey has required. Reaching the roof of Africa is more than a photograph it is an unforgettable achievement created through preparation, resilience, teamwork and one carefully measured step after another.
